Frequently Asked Questions

What vaccinations are required?

At this time we require an up-to-date rabies vaccination prior to grooming. You will be requred to provide a copy of a valid rabies certificate either via text (picture), email, or in person at drop off of dog.

Do I need an appointment and how do I make one?

Yes, all dogs are groomed by appointment, which can be made either by phone or text (301.693.5934). Appointments are available Tuesday through Saturday (closed Sunday and Monday) from 10 am to 5 pm (start time) on most days.

How long will my dog be there?

Most dogs are in the salon between 60 and 90 minutes. Larger dogs and dogs with excess coat or matting may take longer. We do not typically keep dogs for longer than their grooming time and expect pickup within 30 minutes of completion.

Will my dog be with other dogs?

If we still have a dog on the table when you drop your pooch off, your dog will typically hang out in the grooming room. There are always toys and a dog bed or two for lounging. We do NOT put any dogs together that do not arrive together. They may be in the same room, but are always separated by a physical barrier and directly supervised.

What is your process?

  1. Full grooms start with a discussion of what services and style you would like for your dog and if there have been any issues or changes since the last time we saw you.

  2. Once your dog is in our care we typically go over the dog with a quick brushing assessing for matting or skin issues. If excessive matting is found the owner is contacted for approval and the dog is shaved prior to bathing.

  3. Nails are clipped, ground with grinder, or both.

  4. Bath time! During the bath, ears are cleaned and teeth are brushed (teeth done as an add on only).

  5. Towel drying is often a favorite for dogs where we get a bit of play while drying.

  6. Your pooch is now blown dry. Dogs with heavy, long or very curly coats are first dried with the high velocity dryer followed with hand drying on the grooming table. As a general rule we do not cage dry dogs. We find that the coat looks much better totally dried by hand. During the drying process the coat is thoroughly brushed and combed to create a basis for the cut.

  7. Full hair cut is next. We do a variety of haircuts including basic one length all over, fun creative cuts, pet, or breed standard, depending on your preference. If you have a specific cut in mind, please bring a picture and an understanding that not all dog coats are created equally and we may have to alter the look accordingly, especially if the dog is matted.

  8. Finally a bandana is put on and a bit of play time on floor (time permitting).

Do you only do full grooms?

No. We provide a variety of services. Refer to Services.

What are your prices?

Pricing for full grooms is based on breed, condition of coat, and behavior of dog and therefore it isn't one size fits all. Prices at Bandanas are competetive with other nearby salons while providing a small boutique atmosphere and individual attention. Call or text for an estimate and appointment.

Can I stay with my dog during grooming?

We agree that dogs are family and it is important for them to feel comfortable. However, during grooming we require the dogs undivided attention to ensure their safety and ours. When "mom" or "dad" hover it often distracts the dog because they may want to be with you instead of paying attention to the grooming task at hand. Therefore, we do not allow "parents" in the grooming area during grooming time. In addition, we like to develop our own relationship with our clients. We like to talk silly to them, give them treats, and make friends with them, which is more difficult with you in sight. Having the dog's undivided attention ensures that your best bud is happy and relaxed during the grooming process, which is a win for us all. We will text or call when your dog is ready (or just about ready).
